With its wonderful year round weather, San Diego, California is the center for triathlons. In San Diego County, there are over 12 triathlons a year. Most of the triathlons take place from June to December.

The San Diego International Triathlon and Sprint Triathlon, which are the premiere triathlon events, and San Diego Kids Triathlon and Duathlon, take place in June. The triathlons are partnered and benefit St. Vincent De Paul Village. The kids’ event takes place the weekend before the adult race.

In July, there is the Carlsbad Triathlon, which is in the world’s top 5 longest running triathlons, and The Camp Pendleton International Triathlon, which is a great course for Olympic distances.

The Solana Beach Triathlon, which holds a triathlon and duathlon, and the Imperial Beach Triathlon/ Duathlon take place in August.

In September, there is the Special Warfare Superfrog Triathlon that takes place at the North Island Naval Air Station.

The Ironman Hawaii, Reebok Women’s Triathlon, and Mission Bay Triathlon are in October. San Diego is the fourth stop of the Reebok Women’s Triathlon series. The Mission Bay Triathlon is very popular because it was the first triathlon in history.

In November, there is the San Diego Triathlon Challenge, which benefits the Challenged Athletes Foundation, and The Big Rock Triathlon. As of 2005, there is a Big Rock Race Series with one in April and one in November.

And the season ends with Tinsel Triathlon in December. It is a short course race that is a little out of order.
